Top Three: Summer Complaints & Remedies for 2014

I don't know about you, but we have been experiencing some sweltering heat in southern Orange County this summer (2014)! And many of my Beauty Mates have reached out to me inquiring about some of the issues they have faced. I picked the top three most common complaints from this summer, and would like to answer them for you! Are you ready for it?

Complaints & Remedies for Summer 2014

Number 1 - My Moisturizer/Sunscreen Feels Too Heavy - now, I decided to combine two into one with this one, as some people were unhappy with their moisturizers and others were unhappy with their sunscreen. The simple solution to both issues my personal solution next> is too buy products specifically for the summer, and to simplify. What I mean by this is find a moisturizer WITH SPF. This way you will not have to layer a moisturizer with a sunscreen, which can contribute to a heavy feeling on the face. Next, pick a sunscreen that works best for your summer skin type. As the seasons change, our skin conditions tend to as well. For instance: I am combo leaning towards oily in the hot summer months, but lean more towards the dry side in the winter. Thus, my product selections need to change. If you have a heavier moisturizer from fall/winter that you simply can't neglect, try using it as a night treatment instead, and be sure to wash your face in the AM before applying your day moisturizer/SPF.

My Personal Solution? I am all about tinted moisturizers, but reapplying them to your face every 2 hours can get a bit inconvenient . SO, I always have some sort of powder SPF with me. I am tied between three (similar) products: Colorescience Sunforgettable Mineral Powder Brush SPF 50, La Bella Donna Minerals On The Go, and Eminence Organics Sun Defense Minerals. I am currently touting the Colorescience one around with me, as it contains SPF 50 and is water resistant. However, I have used and loved all three. Have a self-dispensing SPF brush is an amazing way to reapply your sunscreen throughout the day, and also a great way to touch-up coverage or get rid of excess oils. I would still recommend switching to a lighter moisturizer specifically for the hotter months, but this is my trick to starting the day off light, and staying light when it comes to product on my face.

Number 2 - My Makeup Melts Off Very Quickly - makeup meltdown is a common issue in the summer, and beyond being unsightly, it can also clog your pores! My top remedy for this would be to: go light on your face, and adopt waterproof/water resistant products for your eyes. Blinc Cosmetics offers a water resistant mascara and liner that I use and love year round, but especially in the summer months. I can even enjoy a beach day without having to worry about the dreaded "raccoon eyes". As for face makeup, I would refer back to number one for my best suggestion: keep it light when it comes to moisturizing, then apply a powdered SPF over top . If you want to add a blush or bronzer to the mix, stick to mineral makeup brands like La Bella Donna, Glo Minerals, and Youngblood Cosmetics.

Number 3 - Why Am I Experiencing So Much Hyperpigmentation, And How Do I Remedy It? - many people don't realize that certain skincare ingredients make your skin more sensitive to then sun. This is an issue year-round, since the sun is always shining, however people tend to spend more time outdoors during the spring/summer months. And many of those people tend to neglect reapplying their sun protection. So, remedy number one would by to use sun protection, and reapply liberally. You should be reapplying at least every 2 hours when exposed to the sun, and even more when you are exposed to water or sweat. There are hundreds of skincare ingredients that can cause sun sensitivity , some of the most popular ones being: glycolic acid, retin A, benzoyl peroxide, retinol, and salicylic acid.
