6 Beauty Tips for Looking Younger
I've been in this business a long time and I can tell you right now- all women want tips for looking younger! The best route to a youthful glow is to take care of what you have. Sounds simple, doesn't it? The truth is that your skin takes a beating from the environment every single day. Here are some of our favorite beauty tips for keeping your skin fresh and healthy:
1: Stay hydrated with plenty of water!
Sorry ladies, that does not mean soda, caffeine or any other type of liquid, even if it is low cal. Soda (even diet soda) has a high concentration of sodium. Sodium retains fluids. You need fluid that will hydrate and flush your body free of toxins. Make sure you are drinking at least 8 glasses a day!
2: Protect your skin from harmful ultra violet (UV) rays.
We all love the sun. We love having a beautiful tan. We don't love wrinkles. The sad truth is UV rays not only cause skin cancer, they also cause your skin to age faster. Wearing a daily sunscreen on your face and body is at the top of my tips for looking younger!
3: Keep your skin clean.
This is a tip for looking younger that tends to get overlooked. I suggest using a gentle cleanser on your face. Glymed Plus Gentle Facial Wash ($32) is the #1 product in the line because people are obsessed with the results. The chemical-free formula leaves no residue, removes dirt and toxins, and firms skin!
4: The best cure for wrinkles is to never have them in the first place!
If you are like most of us, you didn't listen to your Mom when she tried to tell you to stop squinting! Unfortunately, she was on to something. Invest in a good pair of sunglasses! Especially those of you who exercise outdoors or spend a lot of time driving. Read the facts at my Wrinkle Myths blog.
5: Eat healthy.
Looking younger on the outside starts with what you put in the inside. Knowing how and what to eat, can make a huge difference in how you feel. Bad food habits can cause depression, weight gain, and illness. Excess weight can also make you appear older than you are! According to USA Today, "Years melt away with the pounds". Double incentive to lose some!! Weight gain causes your skin to stretch. As you get older, it loses it's elasticity and you're left with sagging skin. The best solution to this is to maintain a proper weight. A rule of thumb for eating habits are...don't eat more calories than you consume. Rachel Ray slimmed down with a healthy diet and exercise. Don't go one single day without doing something extra and physical for at least 30 minutes per day.
6. Change up your look!
Not sure where to begin? Grab a daughter, granddaughter or salesperson at the store that can point you in the right direction as far as clothing, a new hairstyle, or new lip color that is flattering and appropriate for your age. Bring along celebrity photos of women in your age range you may want to emulate. WARNING, you won't look younger simply by dressing like a teenager- we've all seen that fail on Real Housewives. But you can feel and look fresh and youthful with a tweak here and there. I recommend teeth whitening, a good facial, and a new lipstick. Colorscience Lip Shine ($25) is not only winner of #1 Mineral Lip Gloss, it has SPF 35 in it to protect your lips from aging!
Aging doesn't have to be a bad thing! Take care of yourself, inside and out, with these tips and you'll be looking and feeling young for years! XOXO
