Skincare Products - How to Apply Blush
I'm so glad skincare products like blush has made a big comeback in the last few years! It adds a fresh pop of color that wakes up the entire face and looks good on everyone! As with any makeup technique, it's important to consider your face shape before applying. Find out where you fit in below!
Skincare Products For Everyone:
Find a Brush, Find your Apples
A good blush brush is key to blending blush correctly. I have a number of good skincare products all for around 20 bucks. To find the apples of your cheeks, smile in the mirror. The fleshy parts that stand out the furthest are your apples. everyone's got 'em and they aren't always in the same place to the same degree on every face. Finding yours is essential because it's your starting point. A typical go-to for most women is applying a dot of color directly to the apples and blending upward and outward toward the hairline. If you want to work with your face shape and dabble in what's called contouring, read below.
Find your Face Shape
Having trouble? Stand in front of a mirror and trace with lipstick. Step back and identify the shape!
Round- Round faces are nearly as wide as they are long. The widest part of the face is the cheeks. Since makeup is all about creating balance, round faces are going to want to elongate the face. Elongated faces are going to want to round it out, catch my drift? To elongate a round face, create a sideways "V" shape that goes from the cheekbone to the jaw line. Add a little bit of blush from our collection of great skincare products to your chin. Blend well!
Square- Square faces have equal width in their forehead and chin/jaw line. Soften your prominent chin by applying blush to the apples of your cheeks and blend a small amount of blush to your chin and forehead.
Rectangle- (an elongated square) Apply blush to the apples of your cheeks and below the outer corner of your eyes. Never bring the blush below the tip of your nose as this will create more length.
Oval- If your forehead is wider than your chin and your cheekbones are your most dominant feature, you have an oval face and are pretty much the luckiest girl on earth. For you, it's all about highlighting what's already working! Apply blush to the apples of your cheeks and blend toward your temples.
Find a Color
When choosing a color, you want to take into consideration your skin tone and the look you are going for. Bright pinks add a fresh pop of color and tend to give a youthful glow. Golds tend to give that summer sun-kissed look. Oranges have been all the rage and look great on most skin tones. Mirabella's Blush Duo ($30) lets you choose between two colors on a whim or blend them together. Lately, I've been into cream blushes because I like the staying power and the dewy finish. Glo Minerals Cream Blush ($25.50) in bright plumeria is an instant WOW to the face.
Don't let skincare products from your mother's version of blush scare you away! Cosmetics have come a long way and blush is one of the best ways to play up a woman's natural beauty.
