Choosing The Right Sunscreen For Your Skin Type

I am always on the sunscreen campaign trail, and here is why: it is absolutely essential to skin health both inside and out! There are many complaints with applying sunscreen throughout the day, many of which are linked to choosing the wrong sunscreen for your skin type. Today I want to discuss my favorite tips and tricks for choosing the right sunscreen, and give you some suggestions and my favorite options! Are you ready for it?

Sunscreen and Your Skin Type

Quick Tip - I typically recommend using a phsyical block as opposed to a chemical block. The reason being that they are less irritating and drying, and less likely to break you out since they do not absorb but rather sit on the skin surface. That being said, it is not always necessary to swear off of all chemical sun blocks, as many people tolerate certain ones very well. I also recommend a minimum coverage of 20 for everyday use! The higher, the better.

Oily Skin - if you struggly with oily/combo skin, powdered sunscreen is typically the way to go! It can help to absorb excess oil while delivering SPF protection, and the best part is: it's easy to reapply! I absolutely love Colorescience's Sunforgettable Mineral Powder Brush SPF 50, Eminence Organics Sun Defense Minerals, and La Bella Donna Minerals On The Go.

Dry Skin - I prefer liquid sunscreens or tinted moisturizers with SPF for dry skin sufferers! Some of my favorites for non-tinted include: Epicuren Zinc Oxide Sunscreen SPF 27, Osmosis Shade SPF 30, Image Skincare Prevention+ Daily Hydrating Moisturizer SPF 30, and Dermaquest Youth Protection SPF 30. Tinted favorite picks include: Lucrece Tinted Moisturizer , HydroPeptide Solar Defense Broad Spectrum SPF 30, iS Clinical Eclipse SPF 50+, and COOLA Mineral Face Tint Rose Essence SPF 20 Sunblock.

Sensitive Skin - I almost always recommend physical sunscreens to sensitive skin sufferers. These are more natural and are not absorbed by the skin, meaning less chance of a negative reaction. If you must go with chemical, be sure to do a test strip before applying the product to your entire face. Any of the oily skin picks above are fabulous for sensitive skin, and I have seen tremendous sensitive skin success with the Epicuren, Osmosis, iS Clinical, and COOLA picks above!
