Sunscreens: A Summertime Guide To "When" & "How"
I am always talking about different sunscreens. Why? Because it is an absolute necessity in any skincare regimen! Sunscreens not only protect your skin from skin cancer, they also help to slow down the aging process dramatically. All-in-all they are essential, which is why I want to share different kinds with you. As I well know, sometimes it simply isn't ideal to have one type of sunscreen over another, which is why I want to separate some categories for you. The only simple thing I ask you to keep in mind for all options is that you should be using at least one of these each and every day! Are you ready for it?
Sunscreens: When & How
Any Other Day - for everyday use, it is important to be using sunscreen. Yes, even if you plan on being indoors for most of it. Believe it or not, even the sun shining through your windows can effect your skin. For my face, I always indulge in some sort of protection. I am a huge fan of all of Colorescience's Primers
Pool or Beach Day - if you are planning on having a "fun in the sun" day, be sure to reapply your sunscreen as needed. That means once every 2 hours if you are staying dry, or even 1-2 as needed if you are sweating or hitting the water. Any sunscreen (I recommend SPF 30+) will do, as long as you reapply. I use all of my "any other day" picks for pool and beach days, but I also LOVE using Colorescience's Sunforgettable Mineral Brush SPF 30 for easy reapplication that helps to mattify and beautify my skin. I find this to also be perfect for amusement parks as it is the ultimate in easy-on application. It comes in 6 shades - light to bronze in either shimmer or matte. I use this on my son and husband as well!
Photo Opportunity - planning on hitting an event where photos are sure to be snapped? Believe if or not, there is such a thing as sunscreens that don't cause a greasy appearance on the face. Colorescience's Sunforgettable Mineral Brush SPF 30 is one of them, but there are so many other options out there as well. La Bella Donna, Glo Minerals, and Youngblood Cosmetics all have options for SPF-infused makeup that will protect and beautify your skin. All three brands offer the finest in mineral makeup, I cannot say enough about them!
On The Road - Are you planning on heading out on a long road trip? Don't forget to slather on some sunscreen! Yes, even in the car. If you are bundled up in a long sleeve or hoodie, I highly recommend applying some sunscreen to your hands to prevent advanced aging, sunspots, and more! Image Skincare's NEW Iluma Intense Lightening Hand Cream SPF 15 is a fabulous way to protect your skin while lightening pre-existing hyperpigmentation. I recently got my hands on this product and absolutely love it!
Don't Forget The Eyes - the skin around your eyes is amongst the most delicate on your body, which means it is essential to to your best to protect it! How, you ask? Two of my favorite options include: Colorescience's Sunforgettable Loose Mineral Eye Screen SPF 30, and of course, a good pair of sunglasses! If you have been looking for an excuse to pick up a new pair of sunnies, here is your validation. A good pair of sunglasses provides fabulous protection for the sensitive skin around your eyes. I love darker shades with polarized UV protection!
