Soothe Your Soles
Painting our toenails nails with pretty colors may help us to look and feel pretty, we should all take care of our heels too. Feet are often neglected in our skin care routines. The condition of painful cracked heels is known as heel fissures and is caused by dry skin and pressure on the soles of your feet. Dry and cracked heels may prevent you from wearing footwear that exposes those unsightly heels.
Our feet bear all of our body weight while we stand, walk, or run. We have a fat pad on the soles of our feet to receive the impact, but this burden can cause them to crack and form fissures if left untreated. This will further lead to the formation of calluses and can even cause infections. Thus, it is extremely important to take care of your soles and treat them regularly.
Follow the same routine with your feet as you do with your face. This routine should consist of regularly cleansing, exfoliating and moisturizing. When your feet are especially cracked and dry, follow this routine everyday for about a week. Once the condition is better, you can reduce the frequency.
- While bathing, cleanse your feet with soap and exfoliate them with a foot scrubber or pumice stone.
- Rinse your feet and dry them well. Moisturizing your feet is important as the pad on the sole cannot produce the moisture needed. Since this area is more prone to drying out and cracking, moisturizing the feet is an essential step.
- While applying a moisturizer, apply the cream and massage it in gently so that it is absorbed deeply into the skin.
- Before retiring to bed, soak your feet in a foot bath. Prepare one warm foot bath and one cold foot bath. Dip and soak your feet alternately between warm and cold for about ten minutes.
- Lastly, dry your feet well and moisturize. Make sure to wear loose cotton socks before sleeping to keep the feet soft and moisturized.
Never use razors, scissors or other sharp objects to take out the dry dead skin from the soles of your feet. This may cause bleeding and lead to infection. Instead, use a gentle foot scrubber or pumice stone. When moisturizing, try to use natural oil based products like coconut oil, beeswax or shea butter infused with peppermint. This will bring a refreshing and soothing feel.
Choosing the right kind of footwear is extremely important! You need to wear shoes with proper padding and soles. Keep the long heels, thin soles and the slinky sandals in the cupboard for some time.
