Welcoming Breast Cancer Awareness Month

October is one of my favorite months for many different reasons. The leaves begin to turn, the weather begins to feel more crisp, but also it is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, which is very important to me! This month always hits me hard because my mother in law nearly died of breast cancer before she gave birth to my husband. And of course as the years go by I hear more and more about it; and I think it is very important for everyone to be aware! From prevention, to treatment, to cure, it is always good to be in-the-know. This is a cause I stand firmly behind, which is why I am so proud to offer an array of products that donate proceeds to finding a cure CLICK HERE TO VIEW THEM>.

Breast Cancer Prevention Tips

  • Assess Your Risk - Breast Cancer can be heredity, which is why it is important to know your family history. If there is a history get tested early for the gene, and stay in regular contact with your doctor about check ups. Many of you may have heard about Angelina Jolie's decision to have a double masectomy during this past year; which she chose to do after getting tested for the BRCA gene.
  • Respect Your Body - we all know that taking care of our bodies, from exercise to a healthy diet, is important. But keeping up with these things can also help to reduce your risk of breast cancer as well, especially after menopause.
  • Reduce Your Alcohol Intake - Studies have shown that alcohol can and does increase the risk of breast cancer. So try to keep it to special occasions!
  • Avoid Hormone Replacement Therapy - Menopause is not an easy time for most women, and many turn to hormone replacement therapy. However, it has been proven to increase breast cancer risk. If you must take hormone replacement therapy, avoid products with projesterone and limit use to less than three years.
  • Don't Smoke - I am not going to make this a lecture about quitting smoking. I am sure you already know that it is bad for you on many different levels. And yes, breast cancer is one of them.
  • Breast Feed - Breast feeding is a beautiful thing, and it also helps to lower your risk of breast cancer later on in life. Doctors suggest breastfeeding for at least a year to get anti-breast cancer benefits.
  • Perform Self Breast Exams - Make it a part of your monthly routine to give yourself a breast exam. There are many places on the internet to find instructions on how to do this. You can also make it fun by getting your hubby involved!
