Fall Back to School Trends for Makeup

Alana Mitchell, Licensed Esthetician, Day Spa Owner

Oh how I relished the days when mom would pile my siblings and me into the van for some serious back to school shopping! I can remember lying in bed planning which ultra white shoes would go best with my new jeans. Sadly, most of us have had our last first days of school .... but that doesn’t mean we can’t join the fall fun by changing some things up. Pick one of our Fall makeup trends and try it out this season!

By the way, these are the same tips I am following this fall, my little boy starts preschool! To make sure you know you are not reading advice from some random person, read a bit more about me and my experience, click here or on my picture. 10 Makeup Looks to Try this Fall

Colored Eyeliner
If you are ready for a bold change this fall, step out of the box with a daring color like electric blue or bright purple across your lower lid. Make

Youngblood Coral and Pink - $19

sure you keep the rest of your beauty look simple and allowing your eyes be the focal point. Great bonus- you can spend less time applying makeup everywhere else! Wear your favorite casual jeans-and-tee outfit to balance the brightness of your makeup. Click here to see the GloMinerals colored eyeliner.

Pink Lips
Get in touch with your girly side with a lipstick in a soft pink hue. A brighter candy-colored shade will instantly brighten your face. (A great quick fix after a long night out!) Add a little bronzer to warm up the overall look.

Coral Lips
Make summer last with the season’s hottest shade-coral. Pair it with a fall outfit for an unexpected twist. This shade looks great with the slightest hint of a cat-eye because it will draw attention upwards. See below for a how-to!

Slight Cat Eye
Apply liner to corners of your lids for a sassy yet subtle twist that will draw attention to your eyes and make them look lifted and younger. Apply a darker shade of eye shadow to the rim of your top lid and extend it past your outer eye in an upward "cat" eye motion. It's not as dramatic as normal "cat" eyes because you are stopping the edge close to the outer corner and using shadow or gel liner instead of a harsh liquid. This looks great with a sweet and casual half-up, half-down hairstyle and a light lip.

Nude Lip
Showcase all your hard work tanning with a simple nude lip. This is the perfect complement to darker eye makeup and sun kissed skin. The key to nude lips is a moisturizing! Buff your lips with a brush and apply lots of balm before applying lipstick. Frame the look with softly shaped eyebrows and healthy skin.

Defined Eyeliner
Summer is all about less makeup. Make a bold transition to fall with ink-black eyeliner across the top of your lids for an instant pop. Apply mascara only on your top lashes.

Red Lips
If you haven’t tried red lipstick before- now is the time! Find a bright hue that complements your skin tone and keep the rest of your look

Natural Mineral Blush - $25

understated. Go subtle on the eye makeup and rock the look confidently!

Flushed Cheeks
This is one of my personal favs because it gives an all natural glow with minimal effort. The second you sweep on a bright shade of blush your face instantly looks fresh and young. For a simple morning routine, clean and moisturize your face, throw on blush, a tinted lip balm and apply black mascara -Done and Done! Alanas favorite blush is by la bella donna.

Glossy Lips

Last fall was all about the matte lip. This year glossy is making a comeback! Layer a clear lip gloss over your favorite lipstick or over your natural

La Bella Donna Gloss - $22

lip to enhance the color. Gloss is another quick way to step up your look. La Bella donna has Alana's favorite lip glosses, natural and mineral!

Smoky Eyes
Smoky eye is the classic sexy look. If you haven’t tried it, maybe fall is your season to go for it! Brush black and grey eyeshadow on your lids and rim your eyes in thick kohl for a smoldering look. Pair with a clean and crisp blazer to balance the overall effect.

While I can’t promise it will feel as great as a head-to-toe makeover on mom’s dime, subtly changing up your makeup routine can still make you feel like the coolest girl (or mom) in school;).
