Ten Winter Skincare Tips!

Now that winter is here, we must make sure that we are using the right skin care products for the season. Simple moisturization may not be enough! Here are ten simple tips to ward off these winter foes.

1. Apply oil based moisturizers

Try switching to an oil based moisturizer this winter. Look for one that contains avocado or almond oil. Oil based moisturizers do a better job of locking in moisture than water- based ones. Those may be damaging as water freezes on the skin. Don’t forget to apply regularly! Have you heard of one of our newer lines, 100% Pure? There Nourishing Facial Oil, is a MUST!

2. Sunscreen

The sun can still be your enemy even when it is freezing cold outside. Be sure to apply sunscreen with SPF 15-30 on your face and neck 30 minutes before going out. I never leave the house without my Lucrece Tinted Sunscreen.

3. Use a humidifier

Adding moisture in the air will help prevent the skin from flaking. When using a humidifier, the heat can really help purify the skin.

4. Hold off on the hot water

Try not to shower, bathe, or wash your face with super hot water as it can break the capillaries on your face and damage skin cells. Adding a few drops of jojoba oil in your bath can help keep your skin moisturized.

5. Hydrate slightly damp skin

Try to apply your moisturizer right after your shower or bath while your skin is still damp. This will help your skin to seal in the essential moisture and keep your skin hydrated.

6. Avoid licking your lips

The more you lick your lips, the drier they will get! Try to keep lip balms handy to prevent chapped and dry lips. For a quick at home treatment, try applying olive oil with a drop of honey for a few minutes.

7. Opt for cream foundation

Swap your normal liquid foundation for a cream formulation. This will provide your skin with an extra layer of protection and added hydration. Mirabella has a great cream foundation to try!

8. Dry your hair before you go out

It is a good idea to shower in the evening and blow-dry your hair under a cooler setting. Leaving the house with wet hair can actually damage the hair strands. Be sure to use hair conditioner often for added protection.

9. Wear a hat to prevent dry scalp

Prevent your scalp from being dry and flaky by wearing hats made from breathable material. Hats will not only protect the head but also hold in moisture.

10. Give your hands TLC

The skin on our hands is very thin and can lose hydration easily. Always make sure to apply hand moisturizer right after washing your hands. One of my new favorite hand cremes, is Lollia’s Relax Shea Butter. It smells delicious and is very hydrating!
