People Are Drinking THIS for Better Skin

I love the convenience (and deliciousness) of soup for a quick lunch.

How does bone broth sound?

It’s been around for thousands of years but has had a resurgence of popularity for its health benefits.

If you’ve read my blog before, you know the “health and wellness” trend is pretty big right now.

But why is bone broth healthy?

And does it have any skin benefits?

Keep on reading to find out!

What is Bone Broth?

Bone broth is made from beef, chicken, or turkey bones and the connective tissue.

This is boiled into a broth and simmered with vegetables, herbs, and spices for 20+ hours.

Its reputation as a “superfood” is due to the fact that it's packed with vitamins and minerals, amino acids, collagen, and gelatin.

Bone broth is said to have the following benefits:

  • Provides energy
  • Helps you sleep better
  • Boosts immune system
  • Eases gut pain
  • Strengthens gut lining

There are plenty of recipes online that tell you how to make bone broth at home!

How Does Bone Broth Help Skin?

It all comes down to the good stuff in bone broth.

Our body produces less collagen starting in our mid-to-late twentie, but it's plentiful in bone broth.

Collagen supports hair, skin, and nail health.

It keeps the skin smooth, firm, and supple, and reduces the appearance of wrinkles, so it’s great for anti-aging!

Other benefits of collagen include:

  • Maintains bone density
  • Repairs cartilage
  • Relieves joint pain

Gelatin is also one of the most valuable components of bone broth.

It cushions bones so that they glide without friction.

There are even reports that it can help with probiotic growth.

As for your skin, it helps with cellular regeneration and protection against free radical damage.

Also abundant in bone broth are amino acids, which are the building blocks that are needed to form and maintain strong bones.

But it can be hard to get these from diet alone.

Proline is a superstar in particular - it produces collagen and helps improve skin elasticity and smoothness.

Bone broth even contains hyaluronic acid from the connective and neural tissues.

And hyaluronic acid is one of my favorite skincare ingredients for its many benefits.

There are also claims that bone broth can get rid of cellulite.

If you’ve read my dry brushing blog, however, you know that at-home methods won’t eliminate cellulite; they only reduce its appearance.

Final Thoughts

This "wellness movement" we're seeing not only emphasizes the importance of what skincare products you use but also shows what you consume internally can have a positive effect on your skin.

Bone broth won’t yield instant results, but I say it’s worth a try.

I'm all about getting an extra boost of vitamins and minerals.

After all, some savory broth does sound great in this chilly weather.

Hey, Anne! I’m glad to hear that it’s giving you results! I’ll have to try out your recommendation :) I also love making “healthy snack swaps” when I can.

Hi, Tiffany! I personally love Osso Good Bone Broth – the Spicy Pork one is excellent! However, this particular brand has to be ordered online and shipped to your house, so if you don’t want to wait for it, Whole Foods has bone broth in the frozen section that’s just as good :)

Are there any pre-made brands you recommend, for those that don’t have time to make it? Thanks

This is really true! Bone broth is effective in making the skin healthier and glowing. I’ve been drinking Au Bon Broth for a long time now and people are really noticing the glow on my skin. Some even say I look 5 years younger! So instead of drinking coffee and soda, I switched to drinking broth. It keeps my tummy full so it’s also a perfect diet for me.

Alana,

I think I will give it a try. Since it is currently cold here, a nice warm bowl of broth sounds good. Wow, you wouldn’t normally think of bone broth having so many great benefits. I was surprised to hear bone broth has hyaluronic acid, which I know is great for the skin.
