I'm Sharing My Skincare Tips for Music Festival Season

With spring officially upon us, that means it's music festival season!

I live in Southern California, so the two big ones coming up in April are Coachella and Stagecoach.

As you can see from the stat above, many people will trek to the other festivals happening across the country this summer.

Many of these take place over the course of 2-3 days, which can be a lot for your skin (and body) to handle!

Your daily routine will be interrupted, you have to brave the elements, and you won't be sleeping as much.

In today's blog post, I'm covering the essentials to bring with you on your trip to help you look and feel your best.

My Festival Tips

Wear Sunscreen

I know what some of you are thinking.

"I'll be outside for a few days - it's a prime opportunity to tan!"

But is it really worth the risk of skin cancer?

If you're even somewhat familiar with my blog, you know that I think that applying SPF is the #1 skincare step.

There are so many lovely sunscreen formulas out there nowadays that applying it doesn't have to be a chore!

I understand wanting to get a nice glow going on before summer - I really do.

So how about a compromise?

I recommend getting a spray tan or use self-tanner beforehand!

Drink Water

Water keeps your skin in tip-top shape and hydrates it from the inside out.

Not to get into TMI, but I know that at music festivals, it can be a hassle to go to the restroom.

This shouldn't stop you from drinking water, though!

It's especially important as the air will be dry and you'll be on your feet for a majority of the day.

And, let's be real: music festival attendees will probably end up drinking at some point.

Alcohol is a diuretic, so more water is lost than taken in.

Plus, having a few extra drinks can definitely take a toll on the skin.

It can cause dullness, redness, enlarged pores, and fine lines due to inflammation.

So, after you finish an adult beverage, drink some water!

Amp Up the Moisture

Sun exposure, dry air, and lack of water can suck out the moisture from your skin.

This leaves it dehydrated, resulting in dryness, flakiness, tightness, or itchiness.

And, when your skin senses that it’s losing hydration, it actually produces more oil in an attempt to protect itself.

This means your skin might be showing the signs I mentioned above plus a layer of oil.

The best way to prevent this?

You guessed it - drink water and don't skip out on your moisturizer!

Bring Bandannas

Whether it's from the wind or the crowds of people just walking around, things can get dusty.

You don't want to breathe that in!

Tying a bandanna around your mouth and nose when needed can make a world of a difference (especially if you have allergies).

Trust me, dust and dirt can get everywhere.

This also leads me to my next point.

Cleanse Thoroughly

It's essential to wash your face every day, but especially so when you've been outside for 8+ hours!

Dust, dirt, and bacteria can hang around in your pores and cause dullness, redness, irritation, and acne and eczema flare-ups.

Plus, if you're going to wear foundation, it can sit on top of the skin and absorb free radicals from pollution.

Bring a cream, oil-based, foaming, or gel cleanser - please, anything!

If you didn't clean your face after a music festival...ugh...I don't even want to think about it!

Rock a Fanny Pack

It may not be the 80's anymore, but fanny packs are always in festival style!

It can get annoying to carry around a purse all day.

Fanny packs are such a convenient way to bring all of your necessities and you don't have to worry about leaving anything unsecured or unattended.

Bring Comfortable Footwear

You'll be standing...a lot.

Your feet will be feeling it after the first day!

Instead of trying to find a place to sit down, you should get to enjoy as many sights and sounds as you can.

I recommend bringing a few pairs of shoes so you can wear what feels best each day.

Sneakers may not look the most aesthetically pleasing in your Instagram photo, but you'll feel so much happier!
