Summer is the season for everything outdoor whether it is going to the beach, camping or vacations in tropical places. We all know the sun can be harmful to your skin as well as your hair, but what is the best way to fight sun damage? To reduce the risk of harm, be sure to do the following:
1. Hydration is key to any outdoor activity and extremely hot weather. Even if you are not outside, your body will still feel the effects of the hot summer sun. When your body lacks the necessary hydration, your energy will decrease, giving you that lethargic summer feeling. Drink plenty of water or mix it up with green teas. If you are not a fan these options (but come on, we all need water!), try drinking foods that are water-rich like watermelons, lettuce, tomatoes and/or grapefruit. Did you know that tomatoes and watermelons can reduce the risk on sun burning by nearly 30%? Well, thanks to the amount of Licopene in each one they do!
2. Hair conditioning is an excellent way to ensure your ends stay conditioned rather than dry. Natural hair masks such as coconut milk, mashed avocado or bananas will revive your dry hair and leave it silky smooth. Applying one of these masks followed by lightly drying the hair or outdoor exposure will allow the products to soak into your hair best. If you plan on spending a day at the beach, brush regular conditioner through your hair prior to leaving or after you’ve been in the water. This will reduce the risk of tangling and dry ends.
3. Exfoliation is one of the best ways to show off your best skin. Start your day off by using a loofah, firm body brush or a pumice block. Loofahs and firm body brushes can be used to remove any dead skin and also work to increase circulation. 4. Rejuvenate your freshly shaved legs by applying an economical toner. Green tea is an excellent option to smooth and tone your just shaved legs. On hot days, freeze fresh green tea into ice cube blocks. Next, apply over shaved skin to close the pores and leave your legs feeling fresh and sun-ready.
5. With summertime comes the sandal season. Pamper your feet all summer long to avoid the risk of dry, cracked heels. Using a pumice block with olive oil or a moisturizing foot treatment daily will reduce the extra dry skin from cracking. To soften the skin on your feet, soak feet in a footbath.
