How To Dye Your Hair Like A Professional

Alana Mitchell, Licensed Esthetician, Day Spa Owner

Are you tired of going to the salon to get your hair done? Do you want to change your hair color or hide your grays without spending hundreds of dollars? Of course we all do! With my son, it is hard to find time to even get to the salon. Here I have compiled some amazing tips that I have personally tried to make my hair look like a professional dyed it!

By the way, this is the same method I have used on myself countless times in the past. To make sure you know you are not reading advice from some random person, read a bit more about me and my experience, click here or on my picture. Also, you can read THOUSANDS of positive reviews from my customers by clicking my testimonials page, I can help you!

  • Choose the right shade: I get so overwhelmed when I go to the store because of all the different colors to choose from. Start by eliminating the colors that will not suit you or work for. It’s an easy way to have lesser colors to choose from. If you are looking at a solution for your grays, go in for permanent colors. If you are looking at a new tint or brightening your current shade, go in for the glosses. A red gloss will give a nice strawberry blonde effect for the blondes and a blonde gloss gives a nice look for brunettes. For a completely new look, such as highlights or for damaged hair I recommend a stylist. As much as I would like to cut my own hair, I also see a stylist for this as well.

Create sections:If you want to look like a professional dyed your hair, you need to do the job properly! Make sure you cover the entirety of your hair. The best way to do this by creating sections of your hair before applying the dye. For thick sections of hair, smother with a little extra color.

It helps if you create the sections of your hair with big alligator clips (my favorite). Section off the hair into four quadrants and hold in place with the large clips.

  • Brush and Bowl: Using a brush and a mixing bowl for the application is more convenient than using the bottle, it also makes me feel more professional. The brush let you apply with control by focusing on each section at a time. VERY IMPORTANT! Apply the color from front to back paying attention to the hair near the face. The roots should be darker than the hair ends. Avoid dying the ends while doing touch-ups.
  • Care for your Hair:It is safer to apply gentle colors on your hair. If the hair is damaged, the color will create an uneven appearance.
    Complete Moroccan Oil Hair Kit

Take care of your hair by applying a hydrating hair mask every week. Try to avoid using shampoo often and if you need to, dry shampoo is better for colored hair. Using Shampoos, Conditioners, and Masks have helped me with my hair color issues incredibly. Check out my moroccan oil products here.

Tips: While choosing hair color, see the one that suits you and do not always go with the color on the model!

To reduce the smell of the dye, apply some lavender oil on the hair ends before you apply the dye.

Put on a shower cap after you apply the color for covering the grays. This will fasten the coloring process due to the heat.
From so many requests, I have developed a special page on my shopping cart site skincarebyalana.com with a special page set aside for moroccan oils, click here to see it.
